United DJ Mixing School Opens Enrolments for Melbourne Beginner Workshop

United DJ Mixing School has opened enrolments for its 1-day beginner DJ workshop, giving first-timers the chance to learn on professional club equipment and walk away having played their first mix in a single afternoon.

The workshop runs at the school’s Yarraville studio and is aimed squarely at complete beginners. No experience is required, no equipment needs to be brought along, and all ages are welcome. Students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Established in 1993, United DJ Mixing School is Australia’s original and longest-running DJ school. According to the school, the one-day format condenses the foundations of its 12-week Comprehensive Course into a single hands-on session, taught in a small group by a working DJ. Students who later enrol in a full course have the material already covered credited toward the cost.

The day is structured in three parts. It opens with the fundamentals, covering the equipment, music structure, BPM and counting bars, before moving on to beat-mixing, which covers ear training, headphone use and pitch control. After a 30-minute break, students spend the back half of the day on hands-on practice across every gear type, with one-on-one coaching.

Sessions run from 1:00pm to 5:30pm, made up of four hours of instruction and a half-hour break. Tickets are $200 a person, or $300 for two under a bring-a-friend option. Each ticket includes access to all equipment, refreshments, a practice worksheet and a certificate of completion.

The next workshops are scheduled for Sunday 19 July and Sunday 16 August 2026 at the studio, 3 Harris Street, Yarraville. Places are limited.
